Cornell Dairy is a teaching site for undergraduate and graduate students in food science, and is used for dairy research and production. According to the university, dairy production is approximately 530,000 liters. With so much food research and production at the dairy, a sustainable, hygienic and easy-to-clean material should be selected, so stainless steel curtain wall steel was selected to meet environmental needs.
The project features over 13 tons of custom laser-fabricated welded stainless steel beam flanges. The stainless steel structure partially supports the glass facade and is finished with 240 grit as required by building codes. The structure is composed of 42 30-foot-long beams. The consultant team worked together to ensure the timeline required for production, polishing and delivery to Cornell University in the allocated 10 weeks of production to meet the project deadline.
